After getting admission into AJIMS – A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center:

Seeing their children become a doctor is the dream of every parent. It’s not easy to study day and night and finally get a chance to become a part of the medical field. Before going further, you need to breathe in and realize that you have made it! You have fulfilled yours and your parent’s dreams. However, you need to be utterly proud of yourself and celebrate this precious moment. After getting admission you would be really excited about everything, the college, the friends, books, etc. Well, one should be. But before you start your college, we want to help you in guiding how you should manage everything because graduating from a medical college is a much bigger challenge than getting into one. So below is some advice to make your journey easier:

How to manage your time?

1. Pick a place and time:

Every student has a habit of studying at a specific place in their room which helps them focus better, and curbs distractions. So if you are at your home, then you already know that place so stick to it but if you are in your hostel room, then find one. Also, some students like to study in the morning but some find it better to study late at night. Whenever you think assists you more, choose that and make sure to utilize your workspace, at the time of your choice and study with full concentration.

2. Study every day:

Perseverance is key. One needs to study every day especially in medical colleges where the syllabus is lengthy and tedious. After attending your class and returning home, divide whatever you read that day into feasible parts that you can cover that same day. In this case, your preparation for end exams will already be on the get-go and in easy, smaller parts. It becomes very difficult if you let all the syllabus pile up and study in the end. In that case, you will not be able to cover everything in very little time.

3. Keep a timetable:

One needs to make a timetable according to their taste. How much you can study on a specific day and in how much time. Note everything down in that timetable and also keep track of what you have covered and what’s left. In this way, it will become easier for you to follow up with your goals and organize your tasks.

4. Discover your learning style:

Some students find themselves more capable of learning through books and lectures given in the classrooms which is known as auditory learning – reading notes and listening to sessions given by teachers. But some students find visual learning better, that is, the use of highlighters or learning with the help of diagrams or watching session videos. See what suits you better and study in that manner.

5. Take breaks:

You need to take small breaks while studying. Breaks are very important to let the brain absorb everything and for you to rest your mind and body. Always keep an hour break if you are studying 3 hours straight or perhaps half an hour break if you are studying 2 hours straight. Studying continuously can decrease your performance and make you more tired and frustrated.

6. Always ask for help:

If there is anything that you can’t understand, don’t hesitate from asking for help. Your teachers and lecturers will always be more than happy to help you out in every way possible.

7. Stay motivated:

Hang up quotes around your study space and have the end goal in mind, and everything and anything you want to achieve in the future so that it keeps you motivated into studying and becoming the professional you always wanted to be.

Self-Study:

Self-study is one of the most important features of effective and efficient learning. When it comes to self-study, you are the teacher and you are also the student. Evidently, you are the one who has all the power in his/her hands to become the best self. You are the protagonist in your own personal destiny. Through this, you also gain confidence in yourself that if anytime in your life, you face any difficulty in understanding or studying something then self-reliance in terms of self-study is the solution you have right in your hands. You choose what to learn, how to learn and when to learn so it also removes all the pressure that the academic system can put on you When you are curious about something and want to learn it on your own, your interest and motivation to learn it reaches a whole new level and you start to enjoy all the information you are receiving. Self-studying makes learning easier as well as fun.

Dr. Najeeb’s Lectures:

Suppose your exams are near, or maybe on an average day you are learning what you recently studied and it is hard for you to understand it. Furthermore, after discussing it with a teacher or even looking up the internet you still find the topic difficult to understand and you don’t want to leave it for the last moment, especially when you have your exams. Hey, it’s okay. We have the ultimate solution in such situations. Simply go to Dr. Najeeb’s lectures. He has uploaded videos that are intelligently designed to give you the best possible answers for your tough questions. are one of the best, covering the entirety of the subjects of Gross Anatomy, Neuro-life systems, Embryology, Histology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology. He has beautifully paraphrased and explained everything regarding medical subjects that are understandable for every individual.

Self-care:

In addition, when it comes to giving yourself and your mind a tough time because of medical subjects, you need to take a break from all this and take care of yourself. Self-care is vital. After that, go take a hike someday, or a picnic with family and friends, enjoy the winds when they brush against you, take all the goodness of nature in, play some games, watch a movie. Getting into a college doesn’t mean you only have to study for the rest of your life. In conclusion, make this journey more exciting and full of memories for you to cherish when you grow older because this time won’t come again. Wishing you all the best!

I'm grappling with my online studies in Infectious Disease at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. It's made me realize what a visual learner I still am. So these vids are making what was murky crystal clear. While I am easily distracted when I have to do hours of straight reading, I am glued to the videos. I've looked for a series of such videos for months. A million thanks - Dr Najeeb has a true passion for teaching and can convey highly complex topics in an understandable and fun way.
