California University of Science Medicine Overview:California University of Science & Medicine, also known was CUSM was established in August 2012 and the initial name of the college was, “Eastern California College of Medicine.” In May 2013, the college was renamed as “California University of Science and Medicine.” However, California University of Science & Medicine began operation in the spring of 2015. A lot of medical colleges in the US have post-baccalaureate programs that complete their M.D. programs. The California University of Science & Medicine established its first post-baccalaureate program in 2017, known as the MBS program. The primary objective of the program is to train students for a career in several healthcare fields, including by improving the academic qualification of students to get acceptance into more enhanced healthcare educational programs.
The Purpose of the University:The purpose of the CUSM is to establish and run a life and health sciences university, including a research institute, a graduate school of medicine, and several colleges to educate & train future healthcare physicians and medical support staff and conduct research and work with research institutions to advance the science and medical field. Moreover, CUSM may participate in any activities that relate to the purposes stated above.

MD Program Admission Requirements:
- Undergraduate Degree: The applicant is required to have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited College or University.
- Citizenship: The applicant must be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
- Letters of Recommendation: The applicant is required to submit 3 letters of recommendation through the AMCAS. Moreover, a letter from a pre-health advisory committee might be a substitute for the other letters.
- GPA: The minimum requirement for both overall and science GPA is 3.00 (on a scale of 4.00).
- MCAT: The scores that will be more than 3 years old will not be considered. Moreover, an MCAT score of 504 or more is preferred.
MD Program Application Process:Step 1: AMCAS: The applicants are required to apply through AMCAS (American Medical College Application System). Moreover, the applicants can find all the relevant information regarding the School of Medicine at AMCAS’s website. Step 2: CUSM-SOM Review: Once the applicant applies through AMCAS, the application is then reviewed by the Admission Office. After the review, the qualified applicants are sent an invitation to fill the secondary application. The Secondary Application consists of an essay that is used to evaluate the candidate’s attributes. Step 3: Secondary Application: The qualified applicants are invited to submit a Secondary Application. The applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $100 along with their secondary application. Step 4: CUSM-SOM Secondary Review: Once the candidate has submitted the secondary application, the Admission Office of the School of Medicine will review the Secondary Application. After the review, the qualified candidates are invited for an on-campus interview. Step 5: In-Person Interview: The qualified candidates are invited by the CUSM for an on-campus interview. However, CUSM will not be responsible for the candidate’s travel expenses & arrangements. The interview includes an orientation session and candidates are given opportunities to interact with the CUSM’s facility. Step 6: Committee Decision: The Admissions Committee of CUSM-SOM will review all the relevant application materials and the interview evaluations of the candidate to make an admission decision. They’ll classify the candidates as Accepted, Waitlisted, and Rejected. Step 7: Acceptance Notification: The acceptance decision will be communicated to the applicant through CUSM-SOM Acceptance Letter. Also, the college will send notifications to the applicants through e-mail.

Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Program:
- GPA: An undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (on a scale of 4.00) is preferred.
- Transcripts: The applicant is required to submit all the official transcripts from all the schools/colleges attended through Parchment & eScript.
- Application Fee: To proceed with the application, the applicant needs to pay a non-refundable fee of $50. The payment instructions will be communicated to the applicant through the email he/she will provide on the application. (Note: CUSM only uses PayPal as their payment service).
- Letters of Recommendation: The applicant is required to submit two letters of recommendation from the candidate’s college or university’s committee within a timeframe of two-years.
- Personal Statement/CV: The personal statement will be submitted along with the application but the applicant is also required to send it electronically to the college. It should includes two points that how does the candidate’s past experiences prepared him/her for the MBS Program & how does the MBS Program fit his/her personal goals.
- MCAT, GRE, or DAT: Standardized test scores are not required to be eligible for the admission. However, if there will be any reported scores, they’ll be available to the admissions committee.

Facilities Provided at California University of Science Medicine:
Library:The CUSM’s library is located in the education building of CUSM providing solo and group study areas. There are a lot of facilities provided to the students, faculty, and staff in the library including computer workstations, wireless connectivity, printer, individual and group seating, and whiteboards. CUSM’s faculty, students, and associates have remote & onsite access to digital library facilities 24/7.
Classroom & College Rooms:The small group learning activities usually take place in different learning spaces i.e. a 60 and 90-seat classroom and 9 college rooms. All of these rooms provide a remarkable learning environment for small groups. Almost 5 students can sit around each collaboration table. In a 60-seat classroom, there is a capacity for 12 tables whereas in the 90-seat classroom, there is a capacity of 18 tables and each college room has a capacity for 10 students.

Housing Options:CUSM doesn’t offer any housing option to its students, but there are various rental options available within a 5-mile radius of the campus. These apartments range from $900 to $1,600 per month for one to two-bedroom apartments. However, most of the rental options cost around $1,400 per month.
How to get successful in a Medical School?Resistance is an evil thing that encourages us to procrastinate and stops us from doing our work. Different studies show that our brain is not good at multi-tasking because it is designed to work on tasks serially, not in parallel. Moreover, there are so many distractions these days that we’ve trained our brain to not be able to focus properly. But one needs to overcome these distractions to get successful in a medical school because medical school demands hard work and sleepless nights and a lot of hardships. If getting into a medical school was easy, everyone would have been in a medical school today. Yes, getting into a medical school is difficult but surviving in a medical school requires a lot of hard work. So how you focus on your education when there are so many other equally important tasks that demand your attention? Here are a few tips that’ll help you succeed in a medical school if you’ll follow them.
Pick a few topics the night before:At the end of every day, ask yourself a question before going to sleep, “If I could only get a few topics done tomorrow, what would they be?” Now, make sure that you focus on those particular topics that you have in your mind in the morning and complete that task. Make sure to complete that task and take help from someone if you don’t understand anything. In this way, you won’t leave everything on the last day. However, you’ll have a hard time to keep up with your school if you keep your focus on only a few topics every day, but the idea behind this is to:
- Build momentum so that you do something every day instead of doing nothing.
- Just get started on something.
