Eligibility Criteria in M.S. Ramaiah Medical College (RMC)

Below are the eligibility criteria for the programs RMC offers:

For MBBS

• Candidates should have passed 10+2 class examination with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in PCB and English.
• The candidate applying should be a minimum of 17 years old and a maximum of 25 years old. This is valid for general category candidates only.
• For candidates of SC/ OBC/ ST, the minimum aggregate required in 10+2 class examinations is 45%
• For MBBS admission, all seats including NRI/ Management Quota Seats are allocated on the basis of rank obtained in NEET, explained below in detail.

For BPT

• Candidate should have obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate in an examination of 10+2 class in PCB as well as other compulsory subjects.
• Candidates are selected on merit in the qualifying examination.

MD/MS

• Candidates have to qualify for the PG Entrance Examination by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.
• Candidates applying should have obtained their MBBS degree for any college recognized by the Medical Council of India.
• The admission for MD/MS is conducted through NEET.

MPT

• Candidates should have obtained a BPT degree.
• Candidates are chosen on the basis of merit.

Ph.D

• Candidates should have an MD/ MSc degree with a minimum of 55% to become eligible.
• For a Ph.D. in physiotherapy candidates should have passed an MPT degree.

PG Diploma Courses

• Selection for PG Diploma courses is done via NEET.
• Candidates should have obtained their MBBS degree from a college recognized by the Medical Council of India for PG Diploma.

Fellowship

• For Fellowship in Perinatal Medicine candidates should have MD/ DNB degree in Paediatrics or a DCH degree with a year’s experience

Admission Criteria in M.S. Ramaiah Medical College (RMC)

If the candidate applying for any of the degrees offered has cleared all the eligibility conditions for it, they then move on to the admission test which is known as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)

In NEET the candidate has to score a minimum of 50%, however, students of ST/ SC/ OBC have to score a minimum of 45%.

The entrance test has 180 MCQs with 4 options to choose from. The exam is conducted in 3 hours and the number of questions per subject is as follows:

• The maximum number of marks a candidate can achieve is 720.
• For every correct answer, the candidate gets 4 marks and for every wrong answer, the candidate loses one mark.
• The exam has to be performed with a black or blue pen.
• The questions from the above subjects are related to the information the candidate studied at 10+2 levels at school.

After the NEET examination takes place, a merit list is prepared and students are chosen according to their merit number. However, if two or more students have equal scores in NEET, preference will be given to

• Candidate having higher marks in Biology, NEET.
• Candidate having higher marks in Chemistry, NEET.
• Candidate older in age.

Campus Life at M.S. Ramaiah Medical College (RMC)

The campus is situated on 70 acres of land and has all facilities imaginable for students and staff. The campus has a food street with a variety of eating joints that are within the budget of everyone. Alongside this, it has sports facilities, hostels, auditorium, state of the art laboratories, stationery shop, flower shop, and many more facilities.

Library

The Central library of RMC is spread over 46,000 square feet of land and has a rich collection of about 19,000 books and 10,366 back volumes of journals from about 235 countries. The library is a member of the ‘HELINET’ consortium offering 675 indexed international as well as national journals. The library also provides computers and internet access for students and staff. There are facilities for scanning, printing, and photocopying. The Central Library also has a section dedicated to Video and CD journals. The library has a humongous collection of reference books for students belonging to SC/ ST. The entire books and non-book materials are barcoded and in-house functions like Cataloguing & Acquisition, Periodicals, OPAC, EPAC reports, and other modules are automated using the EASYLIB automation software.

Integrated Museum

The museum is spread over 10,000 square feet. It holds specimens, charts, and educational articles of 5 primary departments. These departments have designated areas in the museum and other departments have display access on a rotational basis to showcase their case studies.

Advanced Learning Center

The Advanced Learning Center (ALC) is used for bringing practical learning for students to the fore. ALC is accessible to all; the faculty, nursing staff, and students. ALC is well known among other institutes and hospitals for holding frequent workshops and implant validation programs. For such workshops and seminars, a multi-media section has been made inside the ALC which has a seating capacity of about 100 people.

Medical Skills Lab

In this lab postgraduates, undergraduates, and nursing students are taught the basics of surgery, Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and other skills, through mannequins, models, and simulation techniques.

Cadaveric Research & Training Unit

This lab prepares and hosts cadavers that act as ‘near-life’ specimens. This helps postgraduate students and medical professionals hone and advance their skills.

Sports

RMC provides its students with suitable grounds to play Cricket, Football, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball as well as a gym. About 6 to 7 intra-college tournaments are played each year. RMC also won the interstate Women Cricket Tournament 2017.

Literary Activities

RMC has a literary society that is dedicated to writing a new letter and magazine for the university. Literary quizzes are also held like ‘The Travel and Living Quiz’. Managing Time

The hardest thing to do at not just a medical college but at any university is managing time. If you don’t get to it in your first few days, you will have to face a lot of extra hardships later on. To avoid that, in the first few days at your college, take note of how things work, what processes are followed, and what goes where, etc. Once you get the gist of it all, make a rough schedule. Compartmentalize your work. Assign a time to each task and try to complete it in the assigned time. The more you keep on your schedule the easier things will get.

Next, you should get used to making a daily to-do list. All the homework, assignment, or any other task that you get, should go into that to-do list with a due date. Use applications to set reminders to help you complete your work before the due date. What is even better is that you don’t leave the tasks to the last minute. Procrastination will have to wait. Getting to your tasks as soon as possible will help save you from a lot of future trouble. Keeping a list of all the tasks with their due dates and following a schedule regularly will make sure that you never miss a deadline.

Self Help

As stated above, the University or College life differs a lot from school life. Here, only attending lectures may not be enough. It will be required of a person to follow a proper schedule and set aside time for regular catching-up on studies. Sometimes a person finds themselves in a condition where lectures are just not helping them learn, what they can do is turn to either a friend or a TA for guidance. They should never consider this useless, or something that they may overcome on their own, asking for help will actually get you to help in these situations.
