About Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS)

 Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) is first-ever self finance, Merit based Medical College established by the Punjab Government. It is a public school of medicine and is provisionally recognized by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). Services Hospital is its main teaching hospital. It is officially abbreviated as SIMS.

 The College gives admission to students on open merit basis, which is gender neutral and need blind. Admission is granted through a standardized Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) conducted by the University of Health Sciences Lahore (UHS) annually. In case of the Foreign students, admission is processed through the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, as directed by UHS.

Affiliated Hospital

Services Hospital is the third largest hospital of the city . It is a 1196 bedded teaching hospital attached to the campus.

Campus

It has five main lecture theaters, demonstration rooms and library. . All basic departments are equipped with computer aided laboratories, Carl-Zeiss microscopes for student use, and penta-head and deca-head microscopes for demonstration and research. A Research center is also present on the campus. Services Institute of Medical Sciences also has a swimming Pool and a gymnasium at the bird-wood road site.

Official Publication of SIMS

Esculapio, the official journal of Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore, is being published regularly on quarterly basis since 2005. It is a free platform for publishing medical research. It is funded by Services Institute of Medical Sciences and is approved by PMDC. Esculapio is registered with “Directory of Open Access Journals’ and IMEMR, WHO (Index Medicus for Eastern Mediterranean Region, World Health Organization ). It is published considering  ICMJE‘s Recommendations for Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals.

Hostel Facilities

The hostel facilities have been arranged in PHDC and Postgraduate Nursing Hostel, which is the Nursing Hostel of Services Hospital for Boys and Girls respectively. SIMS administration is not bound to provide hostel accommodation to everyone. Students will be provided hostel on first serve basis or subject to availability.

Library

 Services institute of Medical Sciences’ library has more than 8000 books most of which are medical related. It is also a subscriber of a total of 78 Journals; both National and International. Moreover, it gives access  to thousands of scientific books and journals as e-access through Learning Resource Center, which is funded by HEC. Undergraduate Tuition and Fee

As of 2012, undergraduate fee was 10,474 PKR. For updated info, you can contact UHS /SIMS , as fee is increased annually.

The University of Health Sciences Lahore is in charge for conducting the Admission Test (MDCAT) and finalizing the selection of candidates, on the base of merit, for MBBS and BDS in Public Sector Medical and Dental Institutions respectively.

There are hundreds of books available in the library, on topics included in SIMS If your textbook is hard to read and understand, find any alternate book. These books can be a great way to develop your understanding. You can find books in SIMS library or you can check HEC’s funded digital library.
