Life at Stanley Medical College Chennai (SMC)

After the nerve raking admission process and months and months of hard work is paid off, the student feels relieved. Yes, you have achieved great but getting into a medical university is like a marathon, if you are in the lead that does not mean you stop running, you have to keep up the hard work and the stamina to stay in the lead.

To help you to cope up with the university life here are some heads up and a few guide lines.

  • Managing Time

The moment the studies start you should make a schedule according to the importance of different subjects. Managing time especially in university is an art all should master as you have to study daily. Failing to manage time can lead to missed deadlines or marks which can have an adverse impact on your health. Make a schedule or a to-do list for everyday tasks and never leave a task for the next day. Keep track of all your classes, tests and assignments and perform and prepare them as soon as possible.

  • Self Study and Group Study

A few days into university you’ll realize that it is nothing like school or college life. You’re on your own regarding studies and it will be your absolute good luck if you get a cooperative teacher or there will be times when a teacher teaches a certain topic but you don’t get any of the knowledge he imparted. In times like these students seem to panic, but panic won’t get you anywhere, you will have to be an adult and sort out your problems yourself. Self study is something you will have to do very often, go to the library and issue books having the best explanations for the topics you don’t understand. In university one of the best ways to learn something is through group study, as every student has a strong hold on different topics, learning and teaching each other can help you understand something even better.

  • Dr Najeeb Lectures

As mentioned before university is all about self study and group studies, however, students cannot impart knowledge as efficiently as a teacher can and to solve that problems internet has blessed us with Dr. Najeeb.

Dr. Najeeb is the single most spectacular medical teacher you will ever have! I love this man. He has clarified everything from the coagulation cascade, immunology, neurology, and embryology. His sense of humor and brilliant illustrations make everything stick well in your memory. His ability to illustrate 3-dimensional relationships has been useful for excelling in anatomy. I cannot thank you enough for all the wonderful work you do. I recommend your lectures to anyone who wants to truly understand medicine!

I'm grappling with my online studies in Infectious Disease at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. It's made me realize what a visual learner I still am. So these vids are making what was murky crystal clear. While I am easily distracted when I have to do hours of straight reading, I am glued to the videos. I've looked for a series of such videos for months. A million thanks - Dr Najeeb has a true passion for teaching and can convey highly complex topics in an understandable and fun way.
