About University of Kentucky School of Medicine

In 1956, University of Kentucky School of Medicine General Assembly approved the construction of the Kentucky Medical Center University and the accompanying medical school. William R. Willard directed the University of Kentucky Medical Center’s planning and development and was subsequently appointed Vice President of the Medical Center and Dean of the College of Medicine. The building of medical sciences was completed in 1960 and the first batch of 32 students graduated in 1964. UK Medical School provides a creative, high-quality education through its nationally recognized program, emphasizing early clinical encounters, the consistency as a guiding principle, the convergence of fundamental and clinical sciences, and innovative teaching and learning approaches such as small group workshops, structured patients, computer-assisted instruction, clinical training models, and immersive lectures.

Accreditations

The program of the College of Medicine leading to the M.D. The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) has been accredited since 1960. The U.S. recognizes the LCME, jointly sponsored by the American Medical Colleges Association and the American Medical Association. Education Department as a medical education accreditation agency leading to an M.D. degree. The LCME voted to continue the M.D. of the Medicine School. Accreditation for the program in 2011. Accreditation is granted for eight years and in the academic year 2018-2019, the program will again undergo accreditation review.

Admission Procedure for University of Kentucky School of Medicine

You can select any major you want. Every field of study helps students develop skills that contribute to a successful medical career is neither expected nor required. Work with your college or university’s premedical advisor to determine your best strategy. If your college has a premedical committee, you need to use their recommendation process and forms from the UK College of Medicine. If there is no commission, the premedical counselor can provide a comparative evaluation from your school’s participating staff. If none of these options exist, seek evaluation letters from three of your college professors who know you well, at least one of the three recommendations from a faculty member in the main concentration area, and at least one from a scientific area. Medical schools are looking for exceptional, well-rounded candidates with excellent interpersonal skills. Intelligence, caring for others, integrity and honesty, leadership, reliability, endurance, and well-tested medicine motivation are necessary personal qualities. UK College of Medicine suggests that students take time to develop self-health plans, expertise in time management, and networks of personal support.

Regardless of the field of study, the following prerequisites for admission to the UK College of Medicine must be met by all students:

English: Two semesters in English with an emphasis on communication skills such as reading, writing, and speaking
