About University of Kansas School of Medicine

The esteemed foundation of the University of Kansas was first created in 1905. The School of Medicine was then combined with prominent Kansas hospitals in the following decade. And it was in 1947, that the title University of Kansas Medical Center was coined and allotted. The campus continued to thrive and expand its programs over the next fifty years. Unfortunately, the state of Kansas was facing immense difficulties in keeping the hospital and medical campus functional, so the hospital was sold and the medical campus was kept open for schooling, thus resulting in the institution we have today. University of Kansas School of Medicine does not consider itself an average and only academic goals-oriented institution. The academics are exceptional beyond doubt, but the focus is on seeing the bigger picture and working towards a more society-oriented goal. Tips and Tricks to Get Through Medical School

      Be Responsible

You are out of high school and have joined university. Your parents are not with you and this could be the first time you are away from home. Two things are very important to control and handle properly in university: Freedom and Responsibility. You have to enjoy and manage these both to gain the full experience of university. You have an opportunity to test your limits and beliefs and to step out of the box and explore. Here are some tips you can use to get through university.

      Find Your Paths

Know where you are going. Know what domain of medicine you are most interested in your degree and why? You should be at peace with yourself and this decision. If you are doubting yourself or need answers, look for them. This is the time and place for you to learn, not only medicine but about yourself too. If you cannot decide what you want to do, ask your seniors, professors, they are mostly very happy to help and guide you. Take a step outside your comfort zone and soon you will be doing wonders.

      Stay Healthy Mentally and Physically

One thing that people usually never care about is their physiological health. Both physical fitness and mental. University is a place that tests you intensely. You are cornered by a lot of pressure and stress from all that is going on. So, you need to make sure that you take extensive care of your health. Do not skip meals. Join a sports activity or a physically exertive activity a few times a week. Keep contacts with your old friends and family back home, especially on days when you are just not feeling it. One needs comfort and relaxation when mentally stressed, and you need that to perform well. So, take care of your health.

      Work as a Team

Another important thing students tend to overlook is the art of budgeting or being careful with expenses. You are away from your home and parents and they might not always be able to support you financially. So always keep a certain amount of money for emergencies. Try to cook more at home so that you can cut down on some expenses and stay healthy. As the university is a hub of all people from different cultures, even countries, you should expect that you might have to deal with conflict with other people. Be responsible in terms of living with housemates or working with classmates. Do your part efficiently, may that be writing a report, or washing the dishes. Also, deal with conflict and face it and talk it out, rather than letting it fester into a passive-aggressive relationship.

I'm grappling with my online studies in Infectious Disease at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. It's made me realize what a visual learner I still am. So these vids are making what was murky crystal clear. While I am easily distracted when I have to do hours of straight reading, I am glued to the videos. I've looked for a series of such videos for months. A million thanks - Dr Najeeb has a true passion for teaching and can convey highly complex topics in an understandable and fun way.
